I know this sounds crazy, but we need to plant more trees so we can google more. To get desired massive information in a short amount of time (which, come on, let’s face it, only GOOGLE provides), we actually expend C02. The Telegraph took from numerous studies (which I bet they googled) to show that we actually generate up to 10g of carbon dioxide per google search.
Here’s the scary quote “IT now causes about two per cent of global CO2 emissions and its carbon footprint exceeded that of the world’s aviation industry for the first time in 2007.”
BUT those of us who are internet-dependent always think we’re being green. We have no idea that our travel on our computer creates a carbon footprint at all, let alone a heavy footprint.
This is really eye opening.
